I wonder, why does such miracles and their news not spread by the supernatural sky voices (Aakashvani) as mentioned in our mythological scriptures? In olden days, such advertising used to happen from the religious camps, such as ashrams, mathas etc. Any lie that used to leave such places was considered the word from the god and accepted as is without any questioning. The people who used to spread these words were the intermediaries and agents of god.
Now, welcome to the modern era, the same lies and rumors are spread by our highly advanced scientific media. But of course, the first question that arises is: Why is there a need for such widespread advertisement of the ‘supernatural’?
The simplest answer I could get: Money. Yes, indeed. There’s some insane amount of cash inflow with every such ‘miracle’ news. Whichever place such ‘miracle’ news arises from, gets a humungous crowd of blind followers of the religion. And surely such crowds never go empty handed; both the hands and all the pockets go full to come back completely empty, in a false assurance of getting something in return from there. And finally the only people who have a ball are the officials and others sitting at that particular religious place. Who’d not like to get wet in such a cash rain?
Take the recent example of the sea water getting ‘sweet’ in Mumbai. The rumor was that it all happened due to the Dargah of Baba Makhdoom Ali at the coast of Mahim. Now you can imagine the cash flow at that dargah. What about the deities drinking milk, again? How many people tried it on the statues on road sides or parks etc.? I don’t think any did. They all flocked into the temples only, where there are ample pundits (read agents) to enjoy.
And finally coming back to the media, why would they stay back in reaping over the ignorance of the majority of superstitious people? They would present such cases with all the possible hype so that even the least believer would be anxious to believe. The channels’ ratings go high resulting in big cash inflow for them too. Then why’d they not step on to the bandwagon? Many times the media even tries to find some unscientific reasons behind just about any damn happening around the world. Instead of trying to spread some scientific awareness (which was supposed to be the main purpose of news channels), they are really more busy spreading superstitions.
What I really feel sad about is that there are so less mediums in this poor country today to spread the awareness about science and natural phenomena. But the mediums to spread superstitions and supernatural miracles are on the rise on a daily basis.
Where is such a society heading to, light or darkness?

Rrruh-tuh-tuh-tuh-tuh.
If you want to be a true atheist, you’re going to have to rip out a lot more of those borrowed concepts you keeps using. About 70% of your beliefs hinge on the existence of a deity. You’re going to have to reject them all. Of course, then you would have little motivation to pollute the internet with your sophistry. Sounds like a good deal to me.
Plus, it would be nice if you weren’t so shallow and arrogant. It really makes you unsavory and unappealing. Your tacit belief of being somehow a spokesman for “rationality” is almost as annoying as it is corny. Do you like the sound of your own voice? I bet you do.
But of course, I don’t expect much from you. You’re merely buying into some kind of ideology that gives you a petty sense of power or good feelings. You can’t even justify rationality, can you. You’ve assumed it because you feel that no one will contest it, and that you can get away with it, supposedly unchallenged. You are standing naked in the middle of the city, and you don’t even know it.
Thanks for the frank comments, Okarina!
However, from this it looks like you are more a victim of the well known ‘Looking Good Syndrome’ than willing to cause any difference. Sorry to break this to you, but I’m not bitten by that Syndrome.
I say what I feel and realize to be the Reality, which is certainly different from the created perceptions, and for sure, a lot more uncomfortable to the ‘ill’ people like you.
So as you guessed it right… I care a Damn!
